Product Packaging with Company Identity Design

 Company Identity Design

This assignment required me to design the product packaging in Malaysia. I had chosen the egg tart for my product packaging design. I think egg tarts are one of the most famous desserts in Sarawak. So, I would like to do a new inventive product that starts from Sarawak and can be presented to tourism. This is a Sarawak egg tart and has compares differently to other country’s egg tart.

I started by creating the egg tart company logo. I had chosen the Arno Pro typography for the company logo. This is because this type of font can let people feel that this company is producing a homemade egg tart. I used the bold type of Arno font to make the name of company look formal and powerful. The italic of Arno style can give a different feeling from the normal word. Besides, I use the egg tart symbol on the logo to let people easily recognize that the company is selling egg tart. I had used the light brown, yellow, black and white color in my logo. This is because light brown color is part of tart color. This color can represent this is an egg tart company. I use yellow because yellow is color of sunshine. Yellow can evoke pleasant and cheerful feelings as well as provide a feeling of welcome and warmth. I used the black color to represent the elegance and formality of my company. Black contrasts well with bright colors and also portrays strength. I used the white color is because cleanness of the company. The company tagline is “Sweet In Your Heart” which represents the egg tart that the company sells is all in sweet taste. I used the Rage italic font for the tagline because this font feels like handwriting. Because of this, people can know this company’s egg tart is a homemade style.

 Invoice Cover Design

 Invoice

I started to do the company stationery such as name cards, envelopes, letterheads, faxes and invoices. For the name card part, I did the font and back side design. I pasted my company logo with the tagline on the font cover and the back side. In addition, I pasted my entire contact list with the light brown color background. My name card is simple but has a clean design. For the envelope design I decided to keep it simple yet still be able to attract people. I pasted the company logo and the contact information in centre style and the side cover is in a light brown color. The letterhead and fax is also pasted with company logo and the address in centre to ensure the design good is in order. I wrote egg tart flavor on the invoice paper to let the workers take orders easier. There will be three colors inside the invoice book which are white, light pink and light blue color.

I did the product packaging design for the egg tart company. The main material of the packaging is a paper box to save costs for the company. Customer can easily open and use the product. The company has five different shapes of packaging design. The packaging that can only be used in the shop is 1 tart, 2 tart and 4 tart packaging. The one tart packaging has two different types of packaging design. This is because one of the packaging is in a house shape and only for children. The another tart packaging is in a square box shape which has a paper to cover from the side and has a belt shape labeling to tighten the packaging. The two tart packaging uses another shape which is in the box shape but the top is in a semi circle shape to let people not feel bored on the packaging part. This type of shape is also very nice for the company packaging labeling design. The four tart packaging labeling is in a square box shape which also has the belt for part of the labeling design. In addition, the cover of the packaging label will have a transparent paper in an egg tart shape to let people look through our product from the outside. For supermarket, school canteen, college canteen and airline companies we would sell the mini tart only. So, they would have a different type of packaging which is a plastic box with my company labeling design. Different flavor of egg tart have the different product flavor logo on the labeling design. This can let customer have a clear selection on the flavor of egg tart. There will be wax paper to absorb the oil of the egg tart inside all the packaging.

Qin’s tart house has their own creative and unique packaging label design. The curve shape on the packaging represents the shape of the side of an egg tart. The love shape inside the curve shape represents the “Sweet In Your Heart” which is the company’s tagline. The side of the labeling design is in the line shape is represent the side part of the egg tart. The corporate color is yellow and white. Yellow is representing the happiness, energy and cheerful feeling to attract people’s attention. This is because colors help represent people’s feeling in life. White color is representing the cleanness of the company. Other than that, my company will use plastic for customers who buy 1-23 tarts.

Other than that, I also made souvenirs for my company. I had chosen post cards, car stickers, fans and memo pad to be my company souvenirs. Then, I started to do my internet research on the creative souvenirs to design a unique souvenir for the assignment. The souvenir that my company gave to customers can be used to advertise for my company. This is because when a customer uses my company’s free gift like post cards, car stickers, fans and memo pad in their lives, they let the people around them know that our company exists. For example, the company post card uses two type of visual reinforcement which is the product labeling design on the front cover and the other one is using the photograph of a fruit tart. This can attract people’s attention when they first see this post card. For the car sticker, when the customer uses the sticker on their car, other people can notice it right away. For the fan we use our company’s labeling design to let people know directly from this fan that this is a unique type of design. The memo pad of my company is a unique design which is in an egg tart shape. Inside the memo pad there is a calendar and the memo pad has 100 pages for customers to record their daily experiences in life.

Uniform Design

 Cap

 Apron
T-shirt

Furthermore, my company has our own T-shirt, cap and apron that are used only for the kitchen staff. This can give a customer a good impression when they come to Qin’s tart house to buy the egg tart. I use the white color for my company t-shirt, cap and apron is because white color can represent cleanness of my company. People are then assured that it is safe to eat our product.

A Day in Life (Photojournalism)

Photojournalism

A chef day of life

This is project 3, about a Day in the Life on Earth. We were required to find a person that is interesting to me in some aspect and illustrate an excerpt from their life. So, I had chosen the photography style to record the person that I choose. I had chosen a chef to photo shot in this project.

The name of the chef is Bong Chong Wee, 24 years old. He lives in 10th miles. His parent had opened an economy fast food booth in the shop at 10th miles. Since he was studying from the age of three, his parent changed jobs to open economy fast food booth at 10th miles. Then, he started to learn cooking skills from his father and mother. Now, he has 9 years cooking experience. In the year 2009, he was invited to become a chef in pumpkin café. I selected him because he is a hardworking young man, who wants to save money to have wedding and feed his family. In any case hard, hard work is what he had to overcome to achieve.

That was the point that I think his life was very interesting and meaningful for me.
(1)
In my photojournalism, I had divided all the time in different screens. The first photojournalism was from 6:00 am until 7:00 am. The sky was still dark and the shop hadn’t open yet. I showed the movement when he started to bring out the entire kitchen utensil before his parent came. Some of the photo I was edited it in black and white style. This is because his booth was inside an old shop. Furthermore, I wanted to let people have the old and unique feeling.

(2)
The second photojournalism was from 7:00 am until 8:00 am. I showed how he prepared the food ingredients for his parent to cook in the small thumbnail photo. In that screen I also have shown the environment of his working place. I used some close up shots in this photojournalism to make the whole layout look more interesting. The left hand side got the clock to show the time in that moment. That was the proof of my word. We can see the sky color was still in blue color, this can prove that moment was in the early morning 7:00 pm.

(3)
The third photojournalism was from 8:00 am until 9:00 am. The photo was showing how he placed the food into the shelf and the delicious food view. From the photo, we can feel that he was enjoying his life. He liked to smile and his smile can cheer up people moods. I used the line in this photo to make the layout more attractive. The small food photo in the right side was used to highlight the whole layout.

(4)
The fours and fives photojournalism was from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. It was showing how he serviced the customer. Inside the photo showed how he worked at his booth. Many customers selected their favorite food from the booth. The face emotion was very passionate when he served the customer.

(5)
(6)
The sixth photojournalism was from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm. In this photojournalism, I got to show how he rested and drank his favorite juice and continued to clean the entire booth. There were some photos showing how he put his things inside his car and go home.

(7)
The seventh photojournalism was from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. I was showing the shop that he worked at and some of the environment photo to let people know that he was working at this Pumpkin Café at night. The Pumpkin Café logo with the front view of the shop was used in this photojournalism. Then, I also got one photo with him wearing chef clothes to show his chef’s temperament feeling.

(8)
The eighth photojournalism was from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm. I got to shoot the little things like clocks, calendars, order list papers, a refrigerator, little whiteboard and piece of paper to remind worker to check the ingredient every day. These small things can make the whole story look more attractive. This can show the way he get the food order list and start to prepare the food ingredient to cook.

(9)
The ninth photojournalism was from 8:00 pm until 9:00 pm. It was a process to prepare a vegetable mix meat salad. I have shot some close up photo on the food. This can make the process photo look attractive.

(10)
Then, the tenth and eleventh photojournalism was from 9:00 pm until 11:00 pm. It was showing how to cook the spaghetti, pork rite, chicken chop and lamb chop. I liked the fire which came out when he cooking the food. It must feel spectacular for a chef. From the photo, I know that he was very serious to cook food.

(11)

(12)
The last photojournalism was from 11:00 pm until 11:30 pm. The photo shows his happy emotion from his face when get ready to go home. I got to get a photo of when he helped to clean the kitchen in a small thumbnail. The time of the photo was in 11:30 pm. He was very happy and enjoyed the photo shooting moment and he also asked me to shoot a photo of him with his assistants.

I was happy with this project. I had created the photojournalism on a Day in the Chef’s Life. The chef was very friendly, studious, sincere, honest, loyal, genial, and helpful. That why he was willing to let me have a photo shooting on his life to help me in this project.

The Void Project

Alzheimer's Disorder

Broadsheet Design

This installation is a contained sensory experience on the subject of Alzheimer’s disorder. This illness is an irreversible, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and eventually even the ability to carry out the simplest tasks.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia among older people. Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning—thinking, remembering, and reasoning—to such an extent that it interferes with a person’s daily life and activities.

The Experience

People will enter through a single entrance with light switches surrounding the inner walls and incandescent light bulb are suspended from the ceiling by their cables, providing the illumination to the whole room. The light switches will contain electric servo motors which turn them on and off in a randomly generated computer sequence, as well as the lights they are connected to.

A part of Alzheimer's is trying to create sense of memories their memory.
The random nature of the electrically operated switches along with the lights switches themselves on and off it to create a feeling of fear and uncomfortable environment, mirroring how an Alzheimer’s sufferer can feel. This feeling is emphasized by the fact there are only three of switches there are bulbs, so it will add to the confusion and messy.

The Ceiling Design

The ceiling design used many lines which arrange in a chaotic with a question mark. After the bulb switches on, the floor will display the shadow of the messy line and the question mark. This is a ways to show the Alzheimer’s was making their life feel messy and nervous.

The whole experience is not just about the particular ritual of light switch toggling, but more an attempt to portray the sense of anxiety that an Alzheimer’s sufferer can feel. The dim light (like a low battery lighting) can show the Alzheimer’s patient is feeling fear on everything in their light. This is because they feel strange. They are worried and scared about every single thing that can happen to them. This is because their brain is degenerative. This installation takes what are common household objects and creates an unsettling and uncomfortable experience with them, providing insight into the life of someone suffering from Alzheimer’s.

The Question Mark Shape

Alzheimer’s is a common cause of dementia. Alzheimer’s patients always forget moments in their life. So, in their mind a question mark always appears. The question mark shape can directly communicate to audiences about Alzheimer’s thinking. By completing the ritual of the light switch, the individual feel less stress. The curve and solid wall can let them feel less fear.

The width radius for the inner is one meter, which was enough space for people to walk. The length for whole shape is 3.5 meter. The inner walls consisted of the imagery atmosphere of a misty and shadowy long journey road. The doorway facing the void’s circular wall, these doorways enable the visitor to see the inner room at the time. This can attract people to walk in to take a look. When the visitor walks in the room, they will feel a drastic contrast to the lonely, blurry and fearful location presented as a Alzheimer’s vision.

The Bulbs

The bulbs are lit up in low lighting. This can create the dim lighting environment in the room to show a blurry feeling environment. When people look at the wall environment design they see the full of meaning about living in an Alzheimer’s world. The visitors will feel blurry, uncomfortable, nervous and fearful like the Alzheimer’s patient.

The Outside Design

The installation is entirely enclosed, and the wall is full of photo frames which were without photos to show the Alzheimer’s patient always forget everything in their life. Furthermore, the outer wall also is stuck with many papers which recorded the things they have to do, as to show how sufferers of Alzheimer’s try to remember their memory in their life. Only by fully entering this installation can you see what is inside their world.

The Atmosphere

To create a mood which automatically evokes a feeling of being alone, the atmosphere of a misty and shadowy long journey road was chosen.

When entering a long journey road, the atmosphere is full of mist to show the Alzheimer's patient will actually feel blurred and fear during their life. They feel alone, because they can't remember anyone in their life even if they are their parent. So, this can show the lonely feeling of them during their life journey. Still, being human and not used to ways of nature anymore, walking around the area rather clumsily and noisy. Still their presence, invisible as it seems, is confirmed through all kind of different sounds and others signs such as the wind sound.

Therefore the void not only uses a forest’s visual imagery, but also features a sound loop confronting the visitor with a forest’s typical sound landscape.

Company Identity Design

I choose “Dream Box” for the company name.

Logo

Name card
 Envelope

Letterhead

The logo is using the lower case “d” and “b” to create the logo symbol. This is because “d” represents the first font of “dream” and “b” represents the first typo of “box”. I used three colors for my company logo, which were black and red. I used these colors to make the company logo look more elegant and each of the color has different meaning to represent the message of the company. I use the red color in the logo symbol “d” to represent dreams like power, energy to determination as well as passion on music. I used black color in the symbol “b” to represent the box which was the van is an elegant studio. After creating my logo, I continued to do company stationery which is company name card, letterhead and envelope.

Imagery Suggestion

I designed the company imagery suggestion. I used a bubble to create a bubble man. This is because I think bubbles can represent the meaning of a dream. Then, dreams feel like an organic shape. So, I used the circle bubble to create the cute bubble man for the company imagery cartoon. I also designed the clothes with the ribbon for the bubble man to make it look more attractive. There was the text of “DREAM BOX” on the clothes of bubble man. I did the clothes for the company bubble man to make him look more elegant and have a professional feeling to people. After finishing the whole bubble man design, the head of the bubble man made me feel empty. So, I also tried to create a bubble cap for the bubble man to make it look more cute and funny. The bubble man that I designed can let people feel friendly, cute and funny.

Vehicle Graphics

Other than that, I also did a vehicle palette for the company. I did something simple but enough to attract people attention to the design for the company van. I also use part of the logo “b” to visualize the vehicles palette design. There are company logos on both sides of the front door. This is because I want to let people find out the company name easily. Besides, the company van has different colors on different sides of car. The driving side car design is half white color and half in red color. The shape of the red was part of the symbol design but on bigger side. The others side also was half white color with black color. The front of the car is in white color with the company name. The back side of the car is a black color with the white color contact number. I used the stencil std font for the van to make the text look attractive.
